Scheduled Maintenance & Factory Service Intervals
Oil changes keep the engine running. Factory-scheduled maintenance is what keeps the transmission, brakes, cooling system, and warranty coverage intact. We follow your vehicle's real service schedule and document everything.

What's included
Fluid service: transmission fluid, coolant/antifreeze, brake fluid, differential fluid, transfer case fluid (as scheduled for your vehicle and drivetrain)
Filter replacement: engine air filter, cabin air filter, fuel filter
Belt and hose inspection, with replacement when worn or cracked
Spark plug replacement at the manufacturer's specified interval
Multi-point inspection covering brakes, suspension, steering, tires, and battery
Written, dated service records for every visit — the documentation that keeps a factory warranty intact
Signs something's overdue
- It's been longer than the manufacturer's recommended interval since your last transmission fluid change, and shifting feels rougher or delayed
- The cabin air feels weak or musty, or you notice reduced airflow from the vents — often a clogged cabin air filter
- The engine feels sluggish or fuel economy has dropped, which can point to a dirty engine air filter or fuel filter
- The maintenance reminder light is on, or you genuinely don't know when the last transmission or coolant service was done
- You've hit or passed 30,000, 60,000, or 90,000 miles and haven't had a corresponding service
- You bought the vehicle used and have no service history to go on
Mileage interval table — what gets done and when
| Mileage | Fluids | Filters | Other |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30,000 mi | Transmission fluid (many vehicles), brake fluid check, coolant check | Engine air filter, cabin air filter | Multi-point inspection, tire rotation, belt/hose check |
| 60,000 mi | Transmission fluid, coolant/antifreeze flush, differential fluid, transfer case fluid (4x4/AWD) | Engine air filter, cabin air filter, fuel filter | Spark plugs (many vehicles), belt replacement if worn, brake inspection |
| 90,000 mi | Transmission fluid, brake fluid flush, coolant check | Engine air filter, cabin air filter | Timing belt (if equipped — check your owner's manual), full suspension and steering inspection |
| 100,000+ mi | Repeat 30k/60k cycle going forward; transfer case and differential fluids on 4x4s | All filters again | Spark plugs (long-life platinum/iridium plugs often specify 100k), water pump and belt tensioner inspection |
Exact intervals vary by make, model, engine, and whether the vehicle is driven in severe conditions (towing, gravel roads, extreme cold, short trips). We check your owner's manual or the manufacturer's published schedule for your specific VIN and tell you what's actually due — not a generic upsell list.
Warranty-safe: independent service does not void your factory warranty
This is federal law, not a policy of ours: the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits a dealer from voiding your new-vehicle warranty simply because maintenance was performed at an independent shop instead of the dealership. What matters is that the maintenance follows the manufacturer's published schedule, uses appropriate parts and fluids, and is documented. We follow your factory schedule and give you dated, itemized service records for exactly that reason — if a warranty claim ever comes up, you have the paperwork to back it. A dealer cannot point to "you didn't service it here" as grounds to deny a covered claim.
Fleet & ranch truck maintenance
We service fleet vehicles and ranch trucks on a schedule, not just one at a time when something breaks. If you run a work crew, a delivery route, or a ranch operation with multiple trucks, we can set up recurring service intervals across the fleet, keep consolidated service records for each vehicle, and flag anything that needs attention before it turns into downtime. Ranch and work trucks tend to run harder intervals — more towing, more gravel, more idle time — and the factory schedule alone often understates what severe-duty use requires; we adjust based on how the trucks are actually used.
Why it matters in the Black Hills
Winters here mean sub-zero cold starts, road brine and salt on the highways, and short trips that never fully warm the engine or transmission — all conditions that push fluids and filters toward the "severe duty" interval rather than the "normal" one, even if the mileage says otherwise. Long highway hauls to Rapid City and back, and grades through Spearfish Canyon and up Highway 14A, put sustained heat and load on the transmission and cooling system that flat commuter driving doesn't. Elk and deer season, hunting camp trips, and towing to Devils Tower or the Black Hills campgrounds add real load on trucks and SUVs that a factory "normal" schedule assumes you're not doing. Gravel county roads accelerate wear on air filters, cabin filters, and suspension components. If your vehicle spends real time on gravel, in the cold, or towing, we'll flag where the severe-duty interval fits better than the standard one.
What it costs and how long it takes
A standard 30k or 60k service visit typically takes a couple of hours, depending on how many fluids and filters are due at that interval; a 90k or 100k+ visit with a timing belt or multiple fluid flushes can take longer. Pricing depends entirely on what your specific vehicle's schedule calls for at that mileage — we quote it after checking the manufacturer's schedule for your VIN, before any work starts.
How our process works
- 1
Check the schedule
We pull the manufacturer's maintenance schedule for your specific vehicle and mileage, not a generic template.
- 2
Inspect
Multi-point inspection to confirm what's actually worn or due versus what can wait.
- 3
Quote
We walk you through exactly what's due at this interval and quote it before starting.
- 4
Service and document
We do the work and hand you a dated, itemized record for your files — the same record that protects your warranty.
Due for a fluid service in between intervals? Ask about an oil change service at the same visit. If your steering feels off after a gravel-road season, a wheel alignment is worth checking, and every scheduled visit includes a brake inspection. Buying a used vehicle without service history? Start with a pre-purchase inspection.
Service area
We provide scheduled maintenance for drivers and fleets throughout Spearfish, Belle Fourche, Sturgis, Deadwood, Lead, Whitewood, Saint Onge, Central City, the Northern Black Hills, the I-90 corridor, and Spearfish Canyon.
